Overloading
Students wishing to undertake more than a standard full-time study load (i.e.: more than 50 points) must apply to overload:
- Students in their first year of university study will not be permitted to overload under any circumstances;
- Students must have achieved an average of 70% or higher in their most recent semester of full-time study (50 points);
- Students entering their final semester of study may be allowed to overload, providing they have not failed any subjects in their penultimate semester;
- Students who have failed two or more subjects in two successive semesters will not be given permission to overload in the following two semesters of study;
- A maximum load of 62.5 points is permitted in Semesters 1 and 2. Overloading in Summer Semester (i.e.: more than 25 points is not permitted.
- Students are contacted via email regarding the outcome of applications within 5 days of results being released, or the date the application was submitted, whichever is later.
NOTE 1: Students wishing to take intensive subjects in the September teaching period, in conjunction with 4 Semester 2 subjects, will only be permitted to do so if they meet the requirements listed above.
NOTE 2: Students returning form Exchange or Study Abroad programs can only apply to overload if they can provide evidence of results achieved at the host institution.
Students will not be permitted to exceed a total of 300 points (24 subjects) in the Bachelor of Commerce. Students completing a pre-Melbourne Model double degree will not be permitted to exceed a total of 500 points. Permission to overload in any semester will only be granted if the Faculty believes that the student has the ability to pass all subjects taken in the Semester, and that the overload will not result in a substantially diminished performance in the course.
If you meet these guidelines and wish to overload, you should apply using the form below:

Your application will then be assessed by a course adviser. If your overload has been approved, you will be notified via email. The enrolment for the overloading Semester will be finalised by the course adviser, however it is the student's responsibility to withdraw from subjects (if required) by the Semester's Census Date:
- Semester One: March 31st
- Semester Two: August 31st
Students should note that Overloading is not a valid reason for applying for Special Consideration. If a student believes they are not coping with the additional study load, they should withdraw from a subject before the Census Date.
