What is the International Accounting Study Program?

RMIT University and the University of Melbourne are now collaborating on an Accounting International Study Program subject available to 3rd year accounting students. The next offering is in January 2012 in Europe.

This program has been running for 17 years and has no equal domestically or internationally. It is a high quality multi-country program that targets the top companies and regulators and provides a truly unique experience.

This January, the program includes visits to five European countries, ten cities and fourteen professional visits. Professional visit hosts include the International Accounting Standards Board in London, Tesco Ltd, Sainsburys, Control Risks, NYSE - Euronext, AMF, Axel Springer, German Accounting Standards Board, Siemens, BMW World, Volkswagen (Autostadt), the Warsaw School of Economics, the Australian Embassy in Poland, Nestlé and Deloitte.

Objectives

This multi-city international study program gives you the chance to gain an insight into international business and accounting practices by meeting with key executives in a range of leading business and regulatory bodies in Europe. It also provides a stimulus to students to appreciate different social and cultural aspects of the countries visited and develop interpersonal skills and confidence in public speaking and delivering presentations to host organisations.

Itinerary

The study program runs from 9-31 January 2012. The duration of the study program is 23 days and includes the following hosts*:

Costs and Payments

Study program price

The cost is AU$7,995 per person including all taxes and insurance. University of Melbourne students may be eligible for a $1,000 Melbourne Global Mobility grant. The price includes travel insurance, taxes, all air and rail travel, transfers from airports to hotels, site visits, accommodation (based on twin-share in superior 3 and 4 star hotels), breakfasts daily and specified sightseeing meals, tipping and arrival porterage.

Nationals of foreign countries participating in the program may have to apply for entry (visa) permits to travel to destinations proposed in the itinerary. Please contact the travel management company for further clarification and applicable costs. Australia passport holders do not need to make any visa arrangements.

Subject fee

This is a 12.5 point for-credit subject, and therefore incurs standard tuition fees whic are not included in the cost above. Commonwealth supported students may defer the payment of the tuition fee portion only. For more information about fees, visit the Student Information Directory.

Payment

A deposit of $600 (cheques payable to GSC - Holidays on Location) must be paid within 7 working days of your application being approved to secure your place in the program. Withdrawal from the program before 21 October will incur a cost of $450 +GST which is deducted from your deposit.

The balance of the payment must be paid on or before 21 October 2011. A price guarantee applies (except for ET&FS)
for payments received on or before the specified date. Payment may be made by EFT, cash or cheque. Options to pay by credit card or any other form of payment are available, however are subject to transaction fees imposed by credit card facilitators. Cancellations after 21 October 2011 will be determined with the general cancellation conditions issued by the travel management company. Successful applicants will be contacted by the travel management company to arrange payment.

Grants and Scholarships

Global Study Connections – Strive for Excellence: two $750 scholarships awarded at the conclusion of the tour

WHK Horwath: $1,000 scholarship

Melbourne Global Mobility: eligible students can apply for $1,000 study abroad grants. By completing the Online Mobility Registration and Travel Grant Application form (see the Application Process section below) you will be automatically considered for this grant.

Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia: The Institute is offering a $3,000 bursary to one University of Melbourne student for the January 2012 program. A second bursary is available to RMIT students for the June/July 2012 program. Apply online.

Minimum eligibility requirements for University of Melbourne students

  1. The program is open to University of Melbourne Bachelor of Commerce students pursuing an accounting major.
  2. Prerequisites: either ACCT20002 Intermediate Financial Accounting or ACCT20001 Cost Management.
  3. The University of Melbourne requires all students going on an approved mobility program to have a minimum GPA of 65%. This also ensures that you are eligible for a Global Mobility grant (unless you have previously received Global Mobility funding e.g. for an exchange progam). The GPA is calculated based on results available at the time of application, and is a straight average of all subjects taken in your Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Fill out the application form and submit it to the Commerce Student Centre by the relevant deadline.

Apply for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia bursary worth $3,000. Apply online through the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Round 1 offers will be made by Thursday 15 September at the latest. If places are available, Round 2 offers will be made by Friday 23 September. Offers will be made by email to your University student email address.

If your application is successful you will be required to accept your place and pay a deposit of $600 to Global Study Connections within 7 working days to secure your place in the program. See payment for more information.
